Texas Governor Greg Abbott, 63, has tested positive for the coronavirus. The Governor, previously has been tested daily for the virus, and stated that he had shown no symptoms of infection.
Governor Abbott, a long time supporter of vaccines, was fully vaccinated in December 2020, after publicly receiving the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Abbott is currently taking an antibody treatment, though he showed no symptoms of infection. He joins at least 10 other governors (4 Democrats, 6 Republicans) according to data from Ballotpedia.
According to data from the Texas Tribune, about 45% of Texas’ 29 million people have been fully vaccinated. 83% of all Texans are eligible for vaccinations. This means 54.5% of all eligible Texans are fully vaccinated against COVID-19.
With America’s senators diagnosed with the delta variant, should this be a cause for mass hysteria, and suppression of our country returning back to its original state? Has true freedom and the choice to make personal medical decisions become a thing of past? For a virus that effects older generations the most, the data shows that the vaccine works as a protectant against the variant.
This further details the hypocrisy behind the politically weaponized mandates that vary throughout our nation. Is the delta variant something to be afraid of? If the vaccinated people are protected, the unvaccinated people understand the risks, and further infections appear asymptomatic, isn’t this pandemic already over?
