Six Rohingya Muslims died on Tuesday after massive monsoon rains triggered landslides and flooding into refugee camps in southern Bangladesh.
These camps are home to almost a million Rohingya Muslims, making it the largest in the world.
Bangladesh government official Mohammad Shamsud Douza said “five people died in landslides and a child was swept away in the floods.”
Within Bangladesh exists 700 rivers. Annual Flooding from Monsoons is a common experience in Bangladesh, however the locals state the severity of the floods has been increasing as of recent.
Ahmed Imtiaz Jami, President of the Obhizatrik Foundation—a charity and volunteering organization located in Bangladesh—“We’ve been managing flood relief efforts in the region for 10 years.” adding “It just wasn’t the same.”
