Democrats blocked legislation to declassify Wuhan Lab Leak Intelligence, resulting in 216 against and 207 in favor. Previously, the COVID-19 Origin Act passed unanimously in the Senate in May. The bill would force the Director of National Intelligence to declassify all intelligence between the virus and the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Senator Mike Braun, co-athour of the COVID-19 Origin Act, highlighted that the legislation was bipartisan, asking “who disagrees with transparency?” He continued, stating the virus had “ravaged not only the United States, but the world,” “[W]hy wouldn’t we want to get to the root cause of it?”
“The best disinfectant is sunlight and that’s what we can provide today,” Representative Brad Wenstrup, who helped to bring the bill to the House floor. “The bill first establishes that we must identify the precise origins of COVID-19 because it is critical for preventing a similar pandemic in the future.”
Wenstrup added that the bill is “not controversial by any means” and reminded “not one senator objected” to the legislation in May.
Senator Josh Hawley, co-author of the COVID-19 Origin Act, stated “For over a year, anyone asking questions about the Wuhan Institute of Virology has been branded as a conspiracy theorist. The world needs to know if this pandemic was the product of negligence at the Wuhan lab but the CCP has done everything it can to block a credible investigation. That’s why the Biden administration must declassify what it knows about the Wuhan lab and Beijing’s attempts to cover up the origin of the pandemic.”
Hawley continued “whose lies about this virus turned it into a global pandemic,” and “whose lies about this virus prevented our country and many others from being able to address it effectively in time.”
Senator Braun stated, “Identifying the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic is vital for preventing future pandemics, and as investigations and research into the origins of the virus continue, the Biden administration should declassify intelligence related to any potential links between biological research laboratories in Wuhan, China and the COVID-19 pandemic.”
Why would anybody vote against declassifying information that has directly negatively effected the entire world? Why would Democrats prevent scientists from gaining deeper insight into the origins of COVID-19 to better prepare humanity for preventing future outbreaks? What are those opposing so afraid of?
